Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Upgrades Mobile

Fujifilm provided a versatile solution for Royal Manchester‘s Radiology Department when they were looking to upgrade their CR mobile minus the expense encountered when purchasing a new DR mobile.

“Image quality was a key factor in chosing Fujifilm. The Go Flex was primarily envisaged to be used on our new-born intensive care unit where the dimensions of the detector plate were an influencing factor “ says Andrea Hulme, Lead General Radiographer at RMCH. “ We needed a plate that would sit comfortably within the incubator/ incubator tray and also comply with the Trust‘s infection control policy.  The infection control  and water resistance features of the D-Evo II detector were important to us and we were also aware that Fujifilm had been used successfully in other paediatric centres which was reassuring. In addition, we felt Fujifilm offered value for money with cutting edge technology.”

“The radiographers at RMCH are pleased with the versatility, speed and ease of use that the Fujifilm system offers in the clinical environment. The system was originally purchased predominantly for our neonatal patients; where the ability to view the image almost instantly and prior to removing the plate is a great benefit. With this patient group minimal handling is the aim when it comes to clinical/ nursing care. However, the speed and versatility have also proved to be of great benefit in many other areas around the hospital; our paediatric intensive care unit and emergency department have both praised the system, with both clinicians and nursing staff alike giving positive feedback whenever and wherever it is used.“

Barnsley Breast Imaging Service and Fujifilm Build Exceptional Relationship

In 2012 Barnsley BIS took delivery of two new Fujifilm Amulet Mammography systems.  “The service was performing well” says Simon Ainsworth, Medical Imaging Directorate Manager “until it encountered a unique and challenging problem in late 2014.  Electrical engineering works carried out in the basement below the department generated a new artefact on the images of one of the Fujifilm Amulets. The room was closed whilst extensive investigations and proposed solutions were trialled. As would be expected, the service suffered and performance declined with regular breaches of national targets.

“It would have been easy for the two organisations to become embroiled in a bitter dispute, but the efforts of the team at Fujifilm and their commitment to their customer, combined with the resilience of the Barnsley BIS team led to a strengthened relationship and a positive outcome.

“In 2016 the department underwent a limited reconfiguration to relocate the sensitive mammography equipment away from the source of the electromagnetic field. The final piece of the puzzle was for Barnsley to take delivery of a further Fujifilm Innovality system for biopsy work, making the department exclusively Fujifilm.  BIS is now achieving its best ever performance, meeting all national targets, delivering 100% screening to Date of First Offered Appointment in the last quarter and enjoying consistently low levels of recalls.  Latest compilation of regional performance statistics reveals that Barnsley’s BIS is one of the top performing in the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside Region.”
