Servelec’s mobilising Somerset’s community health workforce

Servelec  has announced the successful implementation of its e-Observations technology at Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Servelec’s e-Observations technology replaces many of the paper-based processes which are often associated with bed-side care. The technology which is designed for clinical staff in any hospital setting, enables care practitioners to record observations on a mobile device at the patient’s bedside, which then calculates the National Early Warning Score thereby reducing errors and also time in having to calculate this for each patient.

Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust chose Servelec to deploy e-Observations in their electronic patient record (EPR) system, RiO, across 13 community hospitals to deliver the Trust’s need for documentation of observations using the National Early Warning Score (NEWS). The observations were previously recorded on paper, the charts were unclear and the data was often hard to read. With the e-Observations solution in place at Somerset, the results are automatically recorded in RiO removing the risk and inefficiencies of paper based notes. The successful deployment has also improved the regularity of the observations as clinical staff are alerted when the next observations are due.Helen Mattock, Clinical Systems Lead at Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said:

Helen Mattock, Clinical Systems Lead at Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The system is very easy to use and clinical staff have quickly adapted to the change in recording practices using iPads. Increasing their mobile recording around the Units has the potential to make patient safety improvements. It has been good to work with Servelec in developing e-Observations as they understand our clinical needs, Trust policy and our current clinical version of RiO. Our team has responded positively to the product and we look forward to further development.”Vicky Mudd, Clinical Services Director at Servelec Healthcare, added:

Vicky Mudd, Clinical Services Director at Servelec Healthcare, added: “Servelec is delighted with this successful go live of Servelec’s e-Observation technology at Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. When used in the RiO EPR system, the observations data entered is stored immediately in the patients record enabling the clinician to remain within the clinical environment instead of having to return to a PC within the ward to update the patients record. This technology enables the Trust to work efficiently and practically, delivering service levels that are demanded by their commissioners and patients. Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is a pleasure to work with and we look forward to building upon this partnership in the future.”
