Kent and Medway recognised for paperless discharge project

Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust Electronic Notification (EDN) Discharge Project has just been shortlisted for the ‘Going Paperless Project of the Year’ at the UK Paperless Awards along with five other organisations.

The Trust said the transformational Project is having a positive impact on patients and other stakeholder including GPs. The EDN is the result of collaboration between information technology innovation, Commissioners and key clinicians including doctors and pharmacists. The Discharge Project deposits patient discharge data electronically into a GP’s secure portal in advance of a patient’s discharge. The previous method was to physically send hard copies of records to services.

This project which was part funded through CQUIN has improved the patient experience, care quality, and the working lives of health and social care professionals. The project utilises Docman to transfer information digitally from its care setting to a GP.

Dr David Chesover, Clinical Lead Mental Health, West Kent CCG “The work done by Les Manley and his team for KMPT on the patient electronic discharge notification project was very well led with excellent attention to detail, collaborative with West Kent CCG Mental Health team and delivered an excellent product. The project delivered on time using digital technology to significantly enhance patient care, note keeping and patient safety on discharge from hospital. It was a pleasure to undertake this important piece of work with KMPT. “
