Innovative patient flow project wins national technology award in Ireland

In partnership with Servelec HSC, St Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin has been awarded IT Professional Team of the Year at the national Tech Excellence Awards 2017 hosted in Dublin, based on the Whiteboard Patient Journey project at St Vincent’s University Hospital.

Servelec and the team at St Vincent’s University Hospital developed a bed management and ‘productive ward’ combined system to replace the physical whiteboards with intelligent touch screen technology, allowing staff to update patient data with clinical icons that provide ‘patient status at a glance’.  The system also integrates with the Emergency Department clinical system and patient administration system in order to streamline processes, maximise bed stock and gain greater visibility on emergency department patients requiring an inpatient bed.

Lloyd Felton, Director of ICT Projects at St Vincent’s University Hospital, said: “St Vincent’s University Hospital are immensely proud of the Whiteboard Patient Journey project. This project was a change management project that resulted in a transformation in the way that we manage patient flow within our hospital – from the point of admission to the point of discharge of our patients. It has also helped to reduce the average length of stay for our patients.”
