Isle of Man achieves paperless digital milestone

IMMJ’s Systems’ electronic document management system is now integrated with the Medway patient administration and electronic patient record system.

The integration is part of a digitisation programme for Noble’s Hospital and the Island’s care services designed to increase efficiency and deliver enhanced patient care, itself a wider part of the Isle of Man Government’s Digital Strategy.

The hospital has scanned paper-based medical and maternity records and made them available to clinical and clerical workers using IMMJ’s MediViewer electronic document management system.  Users can access the documents via a patient-context link in Medway.

The new functionality means clinical and clerical staff can find and read all the relevant information about a patient quickly, when it is needed, from almost any web-enabled device. Multiple healthcare workers can access the same or different records simultaneously.  Benefits also include considerable savings in time previously spent filing, searching and retrieving paper notes.

Richard Wild, Chief Information & Digital Officer at the Isle of Man’s Department of Health and Social Care, said: “It was very important to us to find a solution for the integration that met all our user requirements, to ensure that we had everyone’s buy-in.  We are really pleased with the results.  The system is intuitive and fast and an important next step in our goal to be use digital records by the end of 2018.”
