NHS Digital welcomes new chief executive Sarah Wilkinson

NHS Digital this week has welcomed its new chief executive Sarah Wilkinson on her first day in the role.

She takes over the reins from Rob Shaw, who has acted as interim chief executive for the last six months and today begins a new role as deputy chief executive.

Sarah comes to the organisation from the Home Office, where she held the position of Chief Digital, Data and Technology Officer. She brings with her a lifetime of experience in running complex IT organisations across both the private sector and in government.

Sarah said: “I am delighted to be heading an organisation that has such a vital role to play as the key information and technology partner at the very heart of the health and social care system.

“This is a key time for the organisation as it becomes Fit for 2020 and I look forward to building on the strong foundations laid down over the last year, improving public access to data and modernising the way health and care is accessed and delivered.”

Rob added: “It has been a privilege to help steer the organisation over the last six months. We can all be hugely proud of the accomplishments shown in our Annual Report 2017and the strides we have made to modernise ourselves over the last year.

“I look forward to working closely with Sarah now to tackle the challenges ahead, driving innovation and collaboration within the health and social care sector.”
