Berkshire East CCG Federation latest to offer digital support for diabetes

Changing Health, the service transforming digital education and support for people with Type 2 diabetes, is now available for almost a quarter of a million people with diabetes to rapidly improve their health outcomes.

A new partnership between Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Changing Health means the service is now operating in 16 NHS organisations across the UK, together covering 8% of the Type 2 diabetes population – a total 241,675 people.

Changing Health combines strongly evidence-based digital education with up to 100 minutes of one-to-one support from a qualified behavioural change coach. The education content is accessed via smartphone, tablet or PC, and is available anytime, anywhere. Positive outcomes for users include substantive reductions in HbA1c, sustained weight loss and, and the possibility to completely reverse their Type 2 diabetes.

Changing Health Chief Executive, John Grumitt, said: “Bringing another group of CCGs on board is an exciting opportunity to deliver highly effective diabetes education with ongoing personalised coaching at scale. The benefits for NHS partners are clear: we can engage more patients, more quickly, reduce treatment costs and free up invaluable time for GPs, nurses and administrators.

“At a time when Type 2 diabetes is close to becoming a full-blown public health emergency, it’s never been more important to help people make healthier choices with scientifically proven techniques. That’s what we’re doing across the country.”
